Art blog entirely dedicated to “Where the Wild Things Are”

I’m supposed to be working on my CO-OP report right now but I got a little distracted and I came across this awesome blog entirely dedicated to Maurice Sendak’s beloved classic Where the Wild Things Are.

Cory Godbey is the creator of the blog and he has loved the book since his childhood. The blog he created contains a collection of works from various artists who share his love for the book. None of the work was done for a profit but has only been created out of admiration for Sendak and the blog is a tribute to his life and legacy.

Here are a couple of illustrations that stood out to me:

Confirmed Acts for Ottawa Bluesfest

As you probably already know, the list of confirmed acts (to date) for the 2010 Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest festival went up yesterday. There are some pretty good bands on the list, but personally I am most excited to see: Arcade Fire, Andrew Bird, Metric, Passion Pit, Great Lake Swimmers, The Rural Alberta Advantage, and a band that I know personally from high school, The Love Machine.

I bought the full festival pass last year thinking that I would save some money but I actually ended up losing money in the end. I went and saw all of the bands I wanted to see (honourable mentions to Okkervil River and GirlTalk) but I ended up being too busy to see the other bands that I “sort of” wanted to see.

Since I might be moved out downtown by then it might be worth getting a full pass, in which case I would most likely go see Joan Jett, Matthew Good, Moneen, and maybe Drake (only because he was in Degrassi).

I’m sure there are plenty of other amazing bands playing that I haven’t mentioned, but it’s only because I haven’t heard them yet. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Jamie T – Sheila

Fuck impressing these people. I just want to blog!!

Sometimes when I’m feeling especially energetic or passionate about something I like to listen to this song and sing it really load in the car. I’ve listened to it so many times that I know all the words and this is a rap song so that’s pretty impressive. I don’t really like rap but this is English rap and that clearly makes it very different.

Jamie T (Jamie Alexander Treays) is a 24-year-old singer/songwriter from Wimbledon, South London. He has two albums out and they are called Panic Prevention and Kings & Queens. Check out his myspace: http://www.myspace.com/jamietwimbledon

The song “Sheila” is from the album Panic Prevention and here it is:

What do you want from me?!

I haven’t been posting much lately because I have been trying to leave a good last impression here at my co-op job. My efforts have been fruitless, however, because my supervisor is so anal  that nothing is ever good enough for her. I had my co-op review recently and all I got was a “good” scoring. I’m fine with that, I mean it was my first try at co-op and everything, but I really feel like her comments were unfair and contradictory. Some sections told me that I should “be more inquisitive when given projects”, while other sections told me to “be more autonomous when working on projects”. I just don’t see how I can be both of those things at once.

The whole time I have been here I feel like she has set me up to fail. She tells me she wants a project done but never tells me how to do it. The result is me working on a project, showing it to her, her telling me that it’s not right and to do it again, me doing it again, me showing her, her telling me it’s not right and to do it again… and so and so on until she finally results to doing this weird combination of sighing and rolling her eyes back into her head until her whole face is twitching with exasperation.

Well, needless to say, this whole experience has not made me feel very confident in my job skills. I kind of feel like it just transformed me into a timid and slightly retarded bobble-head, because that is literally all I do. Stand there and nod my head like an idiot. I have three more co-op work terms to go so there is still a chance I’ll find a job that I actually like, but for now, I can’t believe I’m saying this, I’m actually kind of looking forward to going back to school and back to my old hair salon job.

This post reminded me of that scene from the movie Office Space where they take the computer into a field and smash the shit out of it. I would give anything to be able to do that to my computer right now.

Happy Birthday Adam!!

Today is my nephew Adam’s fourth birthday!! He is having a birthday party with all his friends at his place today and I’m going over there at 12:30. Adam is a funny little red-haired boy. He loves tools and Lego and he refuses to wear any pants that don’t have cargo pockets or places where he can hang his hammer and screwdriver.  I can still remember when he was just a little baby and already he’s turning four.

Justin Vernon covers a Tom Petty song

At the 2010 MusicNOW festival in Cincinnati, Justin Vernon performed a cover of Tom Petty’s “Crawling Back to You”. Tom Petty’s is a classic, but I think I like this version better than the original. Then again, I don’t think anything that comes out of Justin Vernon’s mouth could sound even remotely bad. Here it is:

Take a look at what I think is worth looking at on the web - a collection of art, music, movies, web design, and whatever else catches my eye. Be pepared for the occasional ramble about my life, as well.
