Girl Talk is Coming to Town!!

WHAAAt Girl Talk is playing at the Civic Centre on March 31st at 7pm!!

Greg Michael Gillis, an American musician who specializes in mashups and digital sampling, is the sole man behind Girl Talk. If you were wondering why he gave himself that stage name, here’s the answer:

“[T]he name Girl Talk is a reference to many things, products, magazines, books. It’s a pop culture phrase. The whole point of choosing the name early on was basically to just stir things up a little within the small scene I was operating from. I came from a more experimental background and there were some very overly serious, borderline academic type electronic musicians. I wanted to pick a name that they would be embarrassed to play with. You know Girl Talk sounded exactly the opposite of a man playing a laptop, so that’s what I chose.”

I saw Girl Talk perform for the first time at Bluesfest this past summer and it was amazing to see live. It was raining that day but the crowd was so hyped up and everyone was dancing. Gillis had a table set up on stage with his lap tops on it and there were tons of people on stage with him – all with props like toilet paper guns, balloons, and confetti to throw into the audience, etc.

I’m not sure how much the tickets are selling for online… but if you buy from Carleton, Ottawa U, or Algonquin they are $15, and they go on sale today!

Take a look at what I think is worth looking at on the web - a collection of art, music, movies, web design, and whatever else catches my eye. Be pepared for the occasional ramble about my life, as well.
